Video Game: A Short Story is an editorial publication exploring the evolution of video games and the culture surrounding them. Drawing inspiration from retro gaming systems, digital interfaces, and early computer aesthetics, the project uses experimental layouts to reflect the atmosphere of gaming history.

The objective of this project was to develop a strong and consistent visual system capable of carrying a concept throughout the entire publication.

The cover designs introduce the publication through a dark, high-contrast aesthetic influenced by coded systems. Neon green was used to establish a sense of depth and intensity from the very beginning of the reading experience.

Structured grids and repeated numerical patterns became key graphic elements throughout the spreads. Inspired by the logic and repetition found within computer systems, the compositions create a sense of flow and continuity while visually referencing the technological foundations behind video games.

The publication uses a range of contrasting layouts to create variation and maintain visual engagement throughout the reading experience. Dense pages of binary code are balanced with oversized typography, full-spread imagery, and minimal compositions, allowing each section to feel distinct while still remaining connected through the overall system.
A combination of halftone textures, blurred imagery, scanline effects, and distressed visuals was used to shape the overall atmosphere of the publication. These treatments reference older gaming hardware and screen-based media, helping create a nostalgic visual tone across the spreads.
